BBQ-ing In Your Garden

Plan a fun-filled BBQ party right at home.

A major pro of living in Singapore would be its sunny year-round tropical climate. Enjoy the weather by planning a BBQ get- together with friends and family. Here are some tips to keep in mind.

1. Do not be cheap. Barbequing is one of the least complex forms of cooking, so you have to invest in quality meat, especially if you intend to keep the marinade simple. This is especially true for red meat like beef and lamb.

2. Satay tricks. We tend to place the larger pieces of meat in the middle of the grill where the fire is biggest and leave the smaller items like satay at the borders. Try not to do this for as this will result in uneven cooking. Remember to grease the grill beforehand to avoid sticking and burning.

3. No cold meat. Bring the meat to room temperature before throwing it on the grill. You do not want to

burn the surface of the meat while the insides are still raw. You should also ensure the meat is sliced thinly as this will enable even cooking.

4. Slow and steady. Do not rush the cooking time. Large flames will only char the outer part of the meat. Just like cooking on the stove, ensure the fire is kept at a steady burn and remember that slow and steady wins the race. Keep the fire on low until the meat is almost done then fan the flames for the last few minutes to get a nice caramelization.

Armed with these handy BBQ tips, you can rest assured that your next garden BBQ will be a success. Do not forget to stay hydrated! Get a couple of coolers and fill them to the brim with iced drinks! You should also go online and search for fun cocktail and mocktail recipes!
