Pretend all you want, but there is no arguing the fact that cockroaches make your skin crawl. These silent creepers thread all over your home under the cloak of darkness, spread diseases and are undeniably difficult to exterminate. Here are some things you can do on your own to rid yourself of these pesky creatures.
"Bunch several pandan leaves together, knot them up and place them in your kitchen or anywhere else you suspect cockroaches may be hiding at."
1. Keep your home dry. Cockroaches love damp and dark places. That is why bathrooms and kitchens are some of their favourite places to live and breed at. Before you go to bed at night, give your kitchen a wipe down to ensure none of the countertops, windowsills and dish racks are wet.
2. Pandan leaves. Bunch several pandan leaves together, knot them up and place them in your kitchen or anywhere else you suspect cockroaches may be hiding at. It is believed that cockroaches do not like the smell of pandan. Do not forget to throw out the pandan when it wilts and to replace them with fresh ones.

3. Trash it. Ensure you take out the trash on a daily basis. Even a miniscule amount of food that is left in the trash will attract roaches. Additionally, get trash bins that have lids instead of those without.
4. Citrus items. It is said that cockroaches are repelled by the smell of citrus products. When you clean, get citrusy smelling products instead of scentless ones. You can also make a simple cleaning concoction at home by mixing vinegar, water and lemon juice into a spray bottle.
